Family with a kite

Summer has nearly arrived, and with it comes all of the warm weather, more free time, and plans for adventure! Are you in need of some inspiration to help this summer the best one yet? We’ve got your back! Keep reading for our favorite tips that are sure to make your summer a blast!

Keep Cool All Summer

One of the most important steps in enjoying your summer is making sure that your house stays cool. While Milpitas might not be known for its scorching temperatures, there’s still plenty of heat to go around on a hot summer day.

Here are some of our favorite tips for staying cool this summer:

Fans

We’re not referring to handheld fans here; we’re talking about ceiling fans and exhaust fans, which are both very helpful tools when it comes to keeping your home cool this summer.

Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fans are a great option for rooms that you spend a lot of time in throughout the day. Like bedrooms, offices, and living rooms. They operate by rotating in clockwise and counterclockwise directions depending on the time of year. For example, in the summer, you’ll want your ceiling fan rotating counterclockwise so that it pushes air back down into the room, creating a draft and a cooling effect.

Exhaust Fans

Exhaust fans operate very differently from ceiling fans. Instead of circulating air, they pull hot and humid air from a room. This makes them ideal in spaces like your bathrooms, kitchen, and laundry rooms.

Cook Up Some New Foods

Try out some different meal options or cooking methods this summer, and keep your home cooler than usual! By avoiding the use of your stovetop or oven, you’ll drastically reduce the amount of heat that circulates throughout your home and take some of the strain off of your air conditioner.

Some of our favorite heatless dinners include:

  • Pasta salads
  • Gazpacho (cold soups)
  • Salads
  • Sandwiches
  • Barbecuing outdoors

Another way to avoid cooking indoors is by enjoying your favorite local restaurants! Local eateries are an even better option now because so many of them had to remain closed through last year.

Host a Block Party

We can finally socialize with other people again, so celebrate by hosting a party! Make it a backyard barbeque, and you won’t have to worry about heating up your kitchen unnecessarily. Don’t forget to make sure the air conditioning system is ready to keep you and all of your guests cool all day and night long by scheduling maintenance or repairs if they’re necessary.

Enjoy the Outdoors

Take advantage of the best part of summer: the nice weather! We encourage you to spend as much time outside as possible this summer, so find a new favorite hiking trail, camping spot, or beach chair and enjoy the sunshine on your skin.

You can even make your time outdoors educational by teaching your kids about native plants and animals along the way.

How do you plan on spending this summer with your family? We’d love to hear your ideas.
